If you are interested in an extended volunteer experience, you have come to the right place! This is a great way to roll up your sleeves and work side by side with Chinese staff and volunteers from all over the world. You will have the opportunity to focus on one of our program areas and take a leadership role in many activities. Current positions include Photography, Hospitality, Early Childhood Education, ESL (children and adults),ASL, Foster Home, Homeschool Education, and Medical/Therapy (for those with training and experience). See our Current Needs page for information on specific positions currently available.
Long-term Staff: 1 year and longer
Our community of long-term volunteers is vital to the success of New Day. Living and working alongside our Chinese neighbors, together making a difference in the lives of children and the community around us, is one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever know.
Long-term volunteers are asked to make a commitment of one year, though a shorter period may be considered. Individuals and families who are ready to make the commitment to live for an extended period in China are needed.
Qualifications: All Long Term Staff will submit the standard application and will interview with at least two current or past staff members. A short term stay at New Day is highly recommended before making the commitment to come for an extended period (more than one year). Exceptions can be made for individuals and families with prior overseas experience.
Costs: Volunteers are self-supported through their own fundraising efforts; however, newcomers are provided a great deal of logistical assistance in making the move and integrating into our community and life in our village. Long-term staff live in private housing outside of, but nearby, the New Day campus. All living expenses (rent, utilities, food, transportation) are your responsibility. New Day will provide basic furnishings for your apartment, but you should expect to supplement to meet the specific needs of your family.
Visas: Visas can be challenging for long-term volunteers. Work visas are not readily available, and there are costs associated with maintaining a tourist visa while volunteering for an extended period. Please be sure to discuss this issue with us before making any plans.

Volunteers who come to New Day for one year or longer are considered Volunteer Staff and typically live in the community of QingYunDian rather than on the New Day campus. Single volunteers share a furnished apartment with same gender roommates. The cost is 1250RMB per month including water, gas and phone/internet. Electricity is split among the apartment residents. For couples and families, there are one, two and three bedroom apartments. Costs will vary based on the size and location of the apartment. New Day will assist in locating and furnishing an apartment, usually before you arrive, and will provide basic maintenance as needed. Plan to budget about 2500RMB per month for rent and utilities.
We hope that your volunteer plans will include a trip to New Day!
